I'm Back!

It's been some time since I have posted on this site.  Recently I joined Teacher's Notebook and used this site as my website.  I changed the name to reflect my store in Teacher's Notebook and played around with new backgrounds.  I love change so expect me to play a bit before I settle in with my design!

If you are a 6th grade teacher, you might appreciate our classroom site.  We have all subjects organized on pages and we have lots of resources to teach our curriculum.  In fact, my partner teacher and I say this site is our one stop shop for all things 6th grade.  We use it for all our links and our students simply so to the site to have anything they need.  It is very convenient for the students, parents and teachers.  Check it out by clicking here.

Now...Teacher's Notebook is a site for teachers to market their original products.  I just joined so I have only one resource listed but I will be adding additional resources over the next few weeks as I get my store up and running.  If you are interested in checking out my store, just click here.  I love to travel and I love to use my photography as part of my lessons.  You'll see some of my travels as you look at my lessons.  My next resource I am working on will be expository writing using photography from my recent trip to Washington, D.C.  Here's one photo I may be using.  My favorite memorial in D.C. is the Korean War Memorial.  The first time I say this memorial it was early in the morning and there was a mist of fog.  It gave me chills!

 Stop back often as I reinvent this site to focus on 6th grade common core curriculum. Keep in mind I will always be heavy on technology.

Scoop.it

Scoop.it is a great site to publish a magazine of links on various topics.  It's free for the first 5 scoops and there is a 15 day trial if you want more scoops.  I signed up for the teacher subscription and have been able to add 20 scoops.  I used the students' Social Studies fair topics and now 20 students have a selection of sites to use for their research.  Check that out by clicking on the TAEP Social Studies Fair site.  My 6th graders seemed to love the format and I heard sounds of approval throughout the room when they accessed their Scoop.it yesterday! 

Make Your Own Gingerbread House

This is lots of fun!  I designed my own gingerbread house and now I'm ready to write a poem about it.  I'm thinking I'll do a series of couplets!  Check out my house!

Jeopardy Labs

I've started reviewing our weekly reading selection using Jeopardy.  Students love playing the game and enjoy the competition.  They don't even realize they are learning and reviewing!  The problem is that it takes me forever to build a powerpoint for each story.  I recently started using a web-based program called Jeopardy Labs.  The template is easy to use and I can build my Jeopardy game quickly, save it to my account and I am ready to go!  You can build your own game and save it to the public file or pay for an account so you have your own files.  Check out my game for Saving the Rain Forests by clicking here.

Word Tamer

Word Tamer looks like a good site for learning to write or tell a story by traveling through a fair.  Students can build their story as they move through the fair and then write it off-line.  Click on the title to check it out.
